Michel?Fain, as a psychoanalyst, was particularly interested in dream life. The attention he gave to insomnia in the infant enabled him to explore the role of the sleep-dream system towards the soma. He then showed the contrast between nocturnal dreaming and the narrative of the dream in the session, establishing a contradiction between the psychosomatic and psychoanalytic lineages. This conflict of opposition progressively mutated into a conflict of complementarity with respect to the function of the dream, to treating the regressiveness of the drive, and producing the premium of desire.
